What are the most popular fields of law? Discover 5 of them here

These days more and more people are turning away from their regular 9-5 jobs and looking for something a little more challenging. Something with prestige, and a reputation for brilliance, intelligence and where no two days are ever the same. That’s right, becoming a lawyer has never been more popular and with more people heading to law school and subsequently sitting the bar exam, it’s safe to say that the next generation of lawyers are just as eager and keen as the last.

But, what are the most common and popular fields of law out there? Is there one in particular that draws in graduates and students alike? Here we’ll take a look at 5 of the most popular and common fields of law.

ERISA law

The employee retirement income security act also known as ERISA law, is a common field of law simply due to the number of cases that are taken on each year. ERISA law is a federal law that protects employees and their pensions. It also protects their disability benefits, life and health insurance. Legal cases arise when a claimant's benefits are (they believe) wrongfully terminated and denied.

Family law

Family is a wonderful thing, but sometimes it doesn’t always work out. Working in family law is varied and as passions often run high, it means you need to be on your toes. From parents disputing over who should get custody of their children, to a parent trying to get financial support from the other parent, and of course divorce cases. Family-related issues vary, and you'll have to keep up with the latest legislation and laws.

Business (corporate) law

Business or corporate law is relevant to anyone who is thinking of planning, running or closing a business. It also applies to the merging of businesses and even securing huge multi-million dollar deals. Business law covers a huge amount of scenarios including in the handling of property, employment law, the handling of contracts, bankruptcy and commercial transactions.

Criminal law

Of course, the world of criminal law is incredibly inviting for many fledgling lawyers. Helping victims get the justice they deserve and those falsely accused to clear their names is challenging yet rewarding work.

Environmental law

This relatively new area of law is increasingly popular due to the impact that humans are having on the planet. This practice covers areas such as pollution, climate control, and social responsibility.
